What is a spray-on polyurethane RV roof?

A spray-on polyurethane RV roof is a closed-cell foam roofing system applied directly to the existing roof surface. It expands on contact to create a seamless, insulating, waterproof barrier. Often topped with a UV-protective coating, it’s known for its durability and insulation value.

Is it better than a rubber roof replacement (like EPDM or TPO)?

Not always. SPF is durable but not invincible—especially on moving vehicles exposed to road vibration, flex, and weather. It's more common in stationary applications (like commercial roofs). On RVs, it needs frequent inspection and re-coating to remain effective.  Any company that tells you different is not telling you the entire story.

How does it compare to traditional rubber roofs like EPDM or TPO?

Polyurethane roofs can offer better insulation and seamless protection, but they do not replace structural repairs. If the roof substrate is damaged or the decking is compromised, SPF will not fix or reinforce the structure. In those cases, a traditional membrane replacement is the better call.

Can you spray polyurethane over any existing RV roof?

No. The roof must be structurally sound, fully cleaned, and prepped. Any rot, water damage, or loose materials must be replaced first. Otherwise, the foam will trap moisture, leading to hidden damage and costly future repairs.

Does spray-on polyurethane help insulate the RV?
